Neurodiverse Group Sessions
Peer social groups and clubs can be difficult for children and young people to navigate when they have a diagnosis of autism. Neurotypical communication cues, unspoken nuances, lack of structure and sensory overload can sometimes cause neurodiverse children and young people to find social situations difficult. These invisible barriers can make it challenging to find a social outlet that meets your child’s needs. The neurodivergent group sessions aim to provide a low stimulus, low demand environment where we explore the strengths and challenges of neurodiversity through the creative arts. Group sessions are available for two age groups – 8-12 years and 13-18 years old. These will run once a week for a period of six weeks. Each six-week block will have a different theme:
· The Neuro Crew – Although the challenges of autism will be touched upon, this group will focus on the strengths of neurodiversity. It aims to build confidence and frame autism as being different, not less.
· Sensory Spectrum – This group will explore how our senses can impact our behaviour and decisions. It aims to guide each child through becoming aware of their own sensory profile and develop their own plan on how their needs can be best met.
· The Confident Crew – This group will explore what makes us anxious, how to recognise anxiety, strategies to help with anxiety management and how to move forward with our lives despite being anxious.
€250 for six weekly one-hour sessions. This group will use a lot of messy materials such as glue, paint, marker, clay. Please wear old clothes and ensure you notify me of any allergies that would need to be taken into consideration. Maximum of 8 per group.
